Sept-Oct 2004, with Carrie Bennett, installed in the New Asia windows in Somerville's
Union Square. From statement:As poet and visual artist, we have worked collaboratively
to create pieces resulting from and evoking dialogue. Our process has been one of exchange,
where we each crafted a piece of art/poetry that played off what the other had started—a
chain of initiation and response. In our project, “play” has revealed itself
in the chance-response to each other’s art, the willingness to abandon the intentionality
of our own hands, and the surfacing of surprise realities within each couplet/diptych. We
have played, through complimentary art forms, with what each medium means: How does a penciled
sketch illuminate lines of poetry? Where does one find the language on the canvas? When
does poetry become a visual art form? The aim: exploration.
